just finished dinner. and my tongue and lips are burning!!! we ordered thai food and forgot to mention “not spicy” except for the somtam (papaya salad). the other two, i.e. namtok kai tot (chopped fried chicken in roasted rice grains, spicy sauce and herbs) and tom sep (soup with pork balls, mushroom, lemon grass,  mint leaves, spices) were so fiery spicy…huthssss … i have a reason to eat some chocolates coz my tongue is burning, and i told my hubby that maybe my mouth is burned hmmmm … but after everything, i can still stay food was yummy. that’s what makes eating thai food fun …

  5. for a few times, i actually got to taste somtam here, ate. i have a wonderful thai friend who made it when we had lunches together. unfortunately, the last time was just too much. i think i might have been too greedy. i ended up in the hospital with the worst case of stomach ache i have ever had. turned out i was terribly acidic and the pickled crab might have been bad.

no somtam again then…but beef curry…definitely!!!

  6. really, lars! you are so brave to eat somtam pu (with crab)! i will never coz here they use the live crab. it’s a challenge to the stomach! my somtam thai is just the one w/o even dried shrimps sometimes, not much chili, i.e. only 1 or 1/2 piece maybe, and not too salty. it is still somtam, i think. this is what they call, somtam dek, or somtam for kids. anyway, i also like somtam polamai!
